14th of March 2019 - Informal Joint Session COSI/ SCIFA

High Level Experts from the Member States, representatives of the European Commission and European agencies Europol, Eurojust, Frontex, CEPOL, EIGE met in Bucharest to discuss specific and unitary ways aimed to ensure safety of citizens in the European Union without the restriction of the right to free movement, as well as for the fight against poly-criminal and top organized crime groups.

7th of March 2019 - Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, is heading today in Brussels the first formal meeting of the JAI Council within the Romanian Presidency

During the home affairs session of the meeting there are discussed issues related to migration, the fight against terrorism and the good organization of elections for the European Parliament.The Romanian Presidency of the Council closed the file about the modification of the Civil Protection Mechanism

The Minister of Internal Affairs appreciated the activity of the Border Police in 2018, underlining the importance of the missions of this structure, which, together with similar institutions in the neighboring countries, led to a significant decrease of the migration phenomenon, especially since Romania is located near a major illegal migration route, that of the Western Balkans

February 21st 2019 - The Minister of Internal Affairs, an official meeting with the Ambassador of Tunisia in Bucharest

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, had a meeting with Her Excellency, Mrs. Raja JHINAOUI BEN ALI, the Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic in Bucharest.

The official discussions focused upon strengthening bilateral relations in the field of internal affairs, approaching issues such as police cooperation, emergency situations management, the training of professionals from both countries, combating illegal migration, border security and preventing terrorism

February 20th 2019 - European Border and Coast Guard: Council agrees negotiating position

The EU is working to improve the protection of its external borders, as part of its comprehensive approach to migration. Today, EU ambassadors agreed the Council's negotiating position on a regulation on the European Border and Coast Guard. On the basis of this mandate, the Romanian Presidency of the Council will start negotiations with the European Parliament


February 19th 2019 - The EU is introducing tighter security for ID cards in order to reduce identity fraud

Today, representatives of the Romanian Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on a regulation which will strengthen the security of identity cards of EU citizens and of residence documents issued to EU citizens and their non-EU family members. The informal agreement will now be presented to EU ambassadors for confirmation on behalf of the Council


February 19th 2019 - Immigration liaison officers: Council Presidency and European Parliament reach provisional agreement

The EU is strengthening the cooperation and coordination between liaison officers deployed to third countries by member states or the EU to deal with immigration-related issues

Yesterday, representatives of the Council Presidency and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on a regulation to improve the functioning of the European network of immigration liaison officers. It will now be presented to EU ambassadors for confirmation on behalf of the Council

The EU is strengthening the capacity of law enforcement authorities to fight terrorism and serious crime by improving their access to financial information.

February 8th 2019 - Several internal affairs ministers have visited today the Operational Center for Border Police

In the context of the informal meeting of the EU Justice and Internal Affairs Council in Bucharest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs organized a visit of foreign representatives to the Command and Control Center of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, on Friday, February the 8th.

The visit had the purpose of presenting how the Romanian border surveillance system works, considerring the increased interest towards the foreign border security issues of foreign officials who participated at the Home Affairs Session of the Justice and HOme AFfairs Council, on Thursday, February the 7th.

February 7th 2019 - The home affairs session of the informal meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council

On Thursday, February the 7th, 2019, the home affairs session of the informal meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council took place, in the context of Romania's holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The ministers discussed about anti-terrorism initiatives, strengthening police cooperation, restoring the full functionality of the Schengen area, migration and asylum.

February 5th 2019 - A preliminary agreement for one of the most important files under the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the period of holding the Presidency of the EU Council

The Romanian Presidency of the European Union Council has obtained the preliminary agreement, following discussions with the European Parliament, for two proposals of regulations that will ensure the interoperability of European information systems.

This will determine the efficiency of competent national authorities, by facilitating the correct identification of persons and the fight against frauds within the territory of the Member States.

In the context of Romania`s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers will be held in Bucharest on the 6th-8th of February 2019. The works will be held at the Palace of the Parliament.

The event will be chaired by the Romanian Minister of Internal Affairs, Mrs. Carmen Dan, for the Home Affairs section and, respectively, by the Romanian Minister of Justice, Mr. Tudorel Toader, for the Justice Section.
