Between the 19th and 21st of June 2019, the Romanian Police organized the meeting of SIRENE Office Heads. The event took place in the context of the holding Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The 19th of June 2019 - The EU-US meeting took place at the Palace of Parliament at ministerial level in the fields of justice and internal affairs

On Wednesday, the 19th of June, the EU-US meeting took place at the Palace of Parliament at ministerial level in the fields of justice and internal affairs in the context of Romania's holding of the Council of the European Union’ presidency.

Meeting with the Interim Deputy Secretary for US Homeland Security Department

On Tuesday, the 18th of June, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, had a meeting, at the MAI headquarters, with the Interim Deputy Secretary for US Homeland Security Department, David Pekoske. On this occasion, the two responsible officials discussed about the ways to strengthen the law enforcement agencies’ cooperation and to jointly address concerns about illegal migration and hybrid threats.

CARPOL MEETING

Between 13 and 14 June 2019, in the context of the holding of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by our country, the Romanian Police organized the meeting of the Contact Points for Vehicle Crime Network (CARPOL).

11th-12th of June 2019 - The European Criminal Prevention Network, Meeting in Bucharest

Between 11-12 June 2019, the Romanian Police organized the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN) reunion. The event took place in the context of Romania's holding of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

June 10th-11th 2019 - Discussions regarding the management of the migration phenomenon at the national and regional level within the meeting of the representatives from the member countries in the Prague Process

April 1st 2019 - European Border and Coast Guard: Council confirms agreement on stronger mandate

The EU is working to improve the protection of its external borders as part of its comprehensive approach to migration. EU ambassadors today confirmed on behalf of the Council the informal agreement reached between representatives of the European Parliament and the Romanian Presidency of the Council on a regulation on the European Border and Coast Guard. The new rules now need to be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the Council.

March 29th 2019 - Frontex Management Board Meeting

The 74th Management Board Meeting of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency took place in Bucharest on 27 and 28 March. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Romanian Border Police, in the context of Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

March 14th 2019 - Informal Joint Session COSI/ SCIFA

High Level Experts from the Member States, representatives of the European Commission and European agencies Europol, Eurojust, Frontex, CEPOL, EIGE met in Bucharest to discuss specific and unitary ways aimed to ensure safety of citizens in the European Union without the restriction of the right to free movement, as well as for the fight against poly-criminal and top organized crime groups.

The EU is working to improve the protection of its external borders, as part of its comprehensive approach to migration. Today, EU ambassadors agreed the Council's negotiating position on a regulation on the European Border and Coast Guard. On the basis of this mandate, the Romanian Presidency of the Council will start negotiations with the European Parliament


February 19th 2019 - The EU is introducing tighter security for ID cards in order to reduce identity fraud

Today, representatives of the Romanian Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on a regulation which will strengthen the security of identity cards of EU citizens and of residence documents issued to EU citizens and their non-EU family members. The informal agreement will now be presented to EU ambassadors for confirmation on behalf of the Council


February 19th 2019 - Immigration liaison officers: Council Presidency and European Parliament reach provisional agreement

The EU is strengthening the cooperation and coordination between liaison officers deployed to third countries by member states or the EU to deal with immigration-related issues

Yesterday, representatives of the Council Presidency and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on a regulation to improve the functioning of the European network of immigration liaison officers. It will now be presented to EU ambassadors for confirmation on behalf of the Council

February 8th 2019 - Several internal affairs ministers have visited today the Operational Center for Border Police

In the context of the informal meeting of the EU Justice and Internal Affairs Council in Bucharest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs organized a visit of foreign representatives to the Command and Control Center of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, on Friday, February the 8th.

The visit had the purpose of presenting how the Romanian border surveillance system works, considerring the increased interest towards the foreign border security issues of foreign officials who participated at the Home Affairs Session of the Justice and HOme AFfairs Council, on Thursday, February the 7th.

On Thursday, February the 7th, 2019, the home affairs session of the informal meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council took place, in the context of Romania's holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The ministers discussed about anti-terrorism initiatives, strengthening police cooperation, restoring the full functionality of the Schengen area, migration and asylum.

February 5th 2019 - A preliminary agreement for one of the most important files under the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the period of holding the Presidency of the EU Council

The Romanian Presidency of the European Union Council has obtained the preliminary agreement, following discussions with the European Parliament, for two proposals of regulations that will ensure the interoperability of European information systems.

This will determine the efficiency of competent national authorities, by facilitating the correct identification of persons and the fight against frauds within the territory of the Member States.

In the context of Romania`s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers will be held in Bucharest on the 6th-8th of February 2019. The works will be held at the Palace of the Parliament.

The event will be chaired by the Romanian Minister of Internal Affairs, Mrs. Carmen Dan, for the Home Affairs section and, respectively, by the Romanian Minister of Justice, Mr. Tudorel Toader, for the Justice Section.
