*Regarding the “new cases not allocated by counties”, we specify that their number is determined by the changes brought to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the testing centers directly introduce the results of the tests performed, following that the epidemiological investigation will be performed at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases will be assigned to the county / locality to which the infected persons belong.

**Regarding the cases from abroad, these are cases of some citizens who came to Romania being infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total number of new cases not allocated by counties.

The coefficient of infections accumulated over 14 days, reported per 1,000 inhabitants is calculated by the Public Health Directorates, at the level of Bucharest Municipality and counties. Below you have the chart based on the reports received by CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

Until today, a total of 1.928.306 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered in Romania on January 18th, of which 22.316 are from re-infected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days days after the first infection.

1.784.107 patients were declared cured.

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 764 people were reconfirmed positively. The distribution by county of these cases can be found in the table below.

Until today, 59.327 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 17.01.2022 (10:00) – 18.01.2022 (10:00) were reported by the INSP 70 deaths (29 men and 41 women), of which 5 prior to the reference interval, of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Bistrița-Năsăud, Brăila, Buzău, Constanța, Covasna, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Hunedoara,  Ialomița, Ilfov, Mureș, Neamț, Olt,  Prahova, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Tulcea, Vaslui, Vrancea and Bucharest.

67 of the registered deaths were of some patients who presented with comorbidities, 1 patient did not present with comorbidities, and for 2 patients no comorbidities have been reported so far.

Out of a total of 70 patients who died, 60 were unvaccinated and 10 were vaccinated. The vaccinated patients were aged between 40-49 and 70-79 years and presented comorbidities.

There were reported 5 deaths before the reference interval, which occurred in the counties of Bacău, Călărași and Gorj, in December 2021.

In the specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is 4.218, 191 more than the previous day. Also, 487 people are hospitalized at ATI, 2 more than the day before. Of the 487 patients admitted to ATI, 54 have a certificate attesting to vaccination.

Until today, 11.419.097 RT-PCR tests and 6.671.266 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide. In the last 24 hours, 28.750 RT-PCR tests were performed (16.437 based on case definition and medical protocol and 12.313 on request) and 59.269 rapid antigen tests.

In today’s report from alerte.ms.ro, for the RT PCR tests there are 3 laboratories that made the first report, so there is a surplus of 27,771 tests out of the total RT PCR tests performed so far. I mention that these three laboratories sent explanatory emails to INSP in which they confirmed the data reported in alerte.ms.ro. The laboratories sent explanatory e-mails to INSP, in which they confirmed the data reported through the computer application.

This correction does not affect the number of positive people, because each positive test is reported in coronaforms at the time of processing.

The number of positive people today is only the result of tests performed in the last 24 hours.

In Romania, 64.071 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 4.513 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 66.905 people are in quarantine at home, and in institutionalized quarantine there are 30 people.
