Until today, on August 16th, in Romania, 70.461 cases of people infected with COVID – 19 virus (coronavirus) have been confirmed.

32.587 were declared cured and discharged and 7.981 asymptomatic patients were discharged at 10 days after detection.

Following the tests performed at national level, compared to the last report, 1.087 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were registered, these being cases that had not previously had a positive test. The distribution by counties of the total and new cases can be found in the table below:

At the same time, so far, 2.991 people diagnosed with COVID-19 died.

Between 15.08.2020 (10:00) – 16.08.2020 (10:00) were registered 37 deaths (25 men and 12 women), of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Călărași, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Gorj, Hunedoara, Iași, Maramureș, Mehedinți, Olt, Prahova, Suceava, Vaslui and Ilfov..

Among these, 8 deaths were recorded in the age group 50-59 years, 10 deaths in the age category 60-69 years, 11 deaths in the age category 70-79 years and 8 deaths in the age category over 80 years.

In 36 cases death occurred in patients who had comorbidities.

In the specialized health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 7.359. Of these, 479 patients are hospitalized at intensive care units.

Until today, 1.513.888 tests have been processed at national level. Of these, 11.846 were performed in the last 24 hours, 6.859 based on the case definition and medical protocol, and 4.987 on request.

In Romania, 9.524  people confirmed with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 5.544 people are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 26.713  people are quarantined at home, and 23 persons are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 767 calls were registered to the unique emergency number 112.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55 of 15.05.2020 regarding some measures for preventing and combating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and the gendarmes applied, in the last 24 hours, 1238  of contravention sanctions, amounting to 402.500 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, one crime was found yesterday, regarding the  thwart the fight against diseases, a crime provided and punished by art. 352 Penal Code.

We remind the citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has operationalized, starting with 04.07.2020, a special telephone line TELVERDE (0800800165) where violations of the sanitary protection norms can be notified.

The calls are taken over by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other states, 5.902 Romanian citizens were confirmed as infected with COVID-19 (coronavirus): 1,898 in Italy, 572 in Spain, 124 in France, 2.935 in Germany, 157 in Great Britain, 28 in the Netherlands, 2 in Namibia, 4 in the USA, 111 in Austria, 19 in Belgium, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Switzerland, 2 in Turkey, 2 in Iceland, 2 in Belarus, 19 in Greece, 2 in Cyprus and one each in Argentina, Tunisia , Ireland, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates, Malta, Brazil, India, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Sweden, Congo Republic Hungary and Qatar. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and until now, 123 Romanian citizens abroad, 31 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 9 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, one in Sweden, one in Switzerland, one in the USA, 1 in Brazil and one in Congo Republic, they died.

Among the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus, 338 were declared cured: 308 in Germany, 18 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg and one in Tunisia.

Until 15th of August 2020, 1 904 768 cases have been reported in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra. Most cases have been reported in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Germany.
