To date, on January 1st, in Romania, 636.201 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been confirmed.

566.365 patients were declared cured.

Following the tests performed at national level, compared to the last report, 3.938 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were registered, these being cases that had not previously had a positive test. The distribution by counties of the total and new cases can be found in the table below.

 *Regarding the “new cases not allocated by counties”, we specify that their number is determined by the changes brought to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the testing centers directly introduce the results of the tests performed, and the epidemiological investigation will be performed at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases will be assigned to the county / locality to which the infected persons belong.

The coefficient of infections accumulated at 14 days, reported per 1,000 inhabitants is calculated by the Public Health Directorates, at the level of Bucharest Municipality and counties. Below you have the chart based on the reports received by CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 536  people were reconfirmed positively. The distribution by county of these cases can be found in the table below.

Until today, 15,841 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 31.12.2020 (10:00) – 01.01.2021 (10:00) 74 deaths (48 men and 26 women) were reported, of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Brăila, Brașov, Buzău, Călărași, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Galați, Gorj, Ialomița, Iași, Sibiu, Suceava, Teleorman, Timiș, Vâlcea, Vaslui, Vrancea, Ilfov and Bucharest.

Of these, 1 death was recorded in the age category 30-39 years, 4 deaths in the age category 50-59 years, 25 deaths in the age category 60- 69 years, 25 deaths in the age group 70-79 years and 19 deaths in the over 80 years category.

68 of the registered deaths are of some patients who presented comorbidities, for 2 deceased patients no comorbidities were registered, and for 4 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported so far.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 8.734. Of these, 1.111 are hospitalized at ATI.

Until today, 4.813.406 tests have been processed at the national level. Of these, 15.953 were performed in the last 24 hours, 10.272 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 7.681 on request.

Also, since the last information made by GCS, the results of 4 tests processed before the last 24 hours and transmitted until January 1st have been reported.

In Romania, 32.102 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 9.007 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 48.264 people are in quarantine at home, and 55 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 2.262calls were registered to the unique emergency number and 260 to TELVERDE (0800 800 358).

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 on some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on December 31st 2020., 3.890 sanctions for minor offenses, amounting to 806.792 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 2 crimes were found yesterday to thwart the fight against diseases, a deed provided and punished by art. 352 Penal Code.

We remind the citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has operationalized, starting with 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of the sanitary protection norms can be notified.

The calls are taken over by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other states, 7,063 Romanian citizens were confirmed as infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (coronavirus): 1,939 in Italy, 1,290 in Spain, 173 in the United Kingdom, 125 in France, 3,085 in Germany, 93 in Greece, 49 in Denmark, 36 in Hungary, 28 in Netherlands, 2 in Namibia, 4 in USA, 4 in Sweden, 131 in Austria, 22 in Belgium, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 11 in Switzerland , 3 in Turkey, 2 in Iceland, 2 in Belarus, 2 in Bulgaria, 10 in Cyprus, 2 in India, 2 in Ukraine, 8 in United Arab Emirates, 12 in Moldova, 3 in Montenegro and one each in Argentina, Tunisia , Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Brazil, Kazakhstan, the Republic of the Congo, Qatar, the Vatican, Portugal, Egypt, Pakistan and the Russian Federation. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and until now, 130 Romanian citizens abroad, 33 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 11 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, one in Switzerland, one in the USA, one in Brazil, one in the Republic of Congo and one in Greece, have died.

Of the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus infection, 798 were declared cured: 677 in Germany, 90 in Greece, 18 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg, one in Tunisia and one in Argentine.

Note: these data are obtained by the Romanian diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad, either from the competent authorities of the states of residence, insofar as these data are subject to public communication, or directly from Romanian citizens abroad.

The TELVERDE number is not an emergency number, it is a telephone line strictly assigned for informing citizens and is valid for national calls, from Monday to Friday, between 08.00 and 20.00. Also, Romanians abroad can request information about preventing and combating the virus at the line specially dedicated to them, +4021.320.20.20.

Below we present the situation regarding the infection with the SARS – CoV – 2 virus at European and global level:

As of 31st  of December 2020, 17.348.389 cases have been reported in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra. Most cases have been reported in France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Germany.

As of 15th of December, the CEPCB has stopped publishing data on the number of confirmed cases and the number of deceased citizens, both in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra and globally. These reports will be updated weekly.

Data published by Johns Hopkins CSSE, targeting the number of healed citizens, continues to be updated daily.
