To date, on December 16th, 1.796.230 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been registered in Romania, of which 10.696 are from reinfected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days after the first infection. .
1.721.785 patients were declared cured.
In the last 24 hours, 812 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were registered, of which 22 are of reinfected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days after the first infection.

*Regarding the “new cases not allocated by counties”, we specify that their number is determined by the changes brought to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralised. Thus, according to the new methodology, the testing centers directly introduce the results of the tests performed, and the epidemiological investigation will be performed at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases will be assigned to the county / locality to which the infected persons belong.
** Regarding the cases from abroad, these are cases of some citizens who came to Romania being infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total number of new cases not allocated by counties.
The coefficient of infections accumulated at 14 days, reported per 1.000 inhabitants is calculated by the Public Health Directorates, at the level of Bucharest Municipality and counties. Below you have the graph based on the reports received by CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

To date, 58.019 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.
Between 15.12.2021 (10:00) – 16.12.2021 (10:00) were reported by the INSP 84 deaths, of which 19 previous to the reference interval, (39 men and 45 women), of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Alba, Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Bistrița-Năsăud, Brăila, Buzău, Brașov, Călărași, Cluj, Constanța, Covasna, Dolj, Galați, Giurgiu, Harghita, Ialomița, Ilfov, Maramureș, Mehedinți, Mureș, Neamț, Prahova, Sălaj, Sibiu, Teleorman, Timiș, Tulcea, Vaslui, Vâlcea, Vrancea and Bucharest.
Of the 84 deaths, 3 deaths was registered in the age category 40-49 years, 5 in the category 50-59 years, 25 in the age category 60-69 years, 28 in age category 70-79 years and 23 in the age category over 80 years.
78 of the registered deaths were of patients who had comorbidities and 6 deceased patients did not registered comorbidities.
2 deaths were reported prior to the reference interval, which occurred in the counties of Vâlcea and Bucharest, in November 2021. 72 deaths were reported in the reference interval.
19 deaths were reported prior to the reference interval, occurring in the counties of Argeș, Bacău, Brașov, Covasna, Giurgiu, Ialomița, Neamț, Vaslui, recorded in October and in November 2021. In the reference interval 65 deaths were reported.
Of the total of 84 patients who died, 72 were unvaccinated and 12 were vaccinated. The 12 vaccinated deceased patients were aged 60-69 years and over 80 years. 11 of the vaccinated patients who died had comorbidities and for one deceased patient no comorbidities were reported so far.
In the specialised health units, the total number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 is 3.482. Of these, 600 are hospitalised at Intensive Care Units. Of the 600 patients admitted to ATI, 53 have a certificate attesting to vaccination.
Out of the total number of hospitalised patients, 75 are minors, 71 being hospitalised in medical departments and 4 in Intensive Care Units.
To date, 10.901.832 RT-PCR tests and 5.667.859 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide. In the last 24 hours, 12.754 RT-PCR tests were performed (6.481 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 6.273 upon request) and 30.893 rapid antigen tests.
On the Romanian territory, 12.542 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 3.741 people are in institutionalised isolation. Also, 71.394 people are in quarantine at home, and 37 people are in institutionalised quarantine.
In the last 24 hours, 1.091 calls were registered to the unique emergency number 112 and 1.158 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), open especially for informing citizens.
As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 on some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, on December 16th, the police and gendarmes applied 894 sanctions for minor offences, amounting to 181.200 lei and have drawn up a criminal case.
We remind the citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has operationalized, starting with 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of the sanitary protection norms can be notified.
The calls are taken over by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and until now, 200 Romanian citizens abroad, 40 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 60 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, 5 in Ireland, 2 in Switzerland, 2 in Austria, one in the USA, one in Brazil, one in the Republic of Congo, one in Greece, one in Iran, one in Poland, one in Bulgaria, one in Nigeria, one in Turkey and one in Croatia have died.
Of the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus infection, 798 were declared cured: 677 in Germany, 90 in Greece, 18 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg, one in Tunisia and one in Argentine.
