To date, on December 23rd, 1,801,081 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered in Romania, of which 10,815 are from re-infected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days after the first one. infection.
1,729,714 patients were declared cured.
In the last 24 hours, 775 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were registered, of which 25 are from reinfected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days after the first infection.

*Regarding the “new cases not allocated by counties”, we specify that their number is determined by the changes brought to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralised. Thus, according to the new methodology, the testing centers directly introduce the results of the tests performed, and the epidemiological investigation will be performed at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases will be assigned to the county / locality to which the infected persons belong.
** Regarding the cases from abroad, these are cases of some citizens who came to Romania being infected in other countries. These cases were included in the total number of new cases not allocated by counties.

To date, 58,463 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.
Between 22.12.2021 (10:00) and 23.12.2021 (10:00) were reported by the INSP 81 deaths, of which 44 prior to the reference interval (45 men and 36 women), of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in hospitals in Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Brăila, Caraș-Severin, Călărași, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Ialomița, Maramureș, Mureș, Neamț, Prahova, Suceava, Teleorman, Vâlcea, Vrancea and Municipio.
Of the 81 deaths, 2 were registered in the age group 40-49 years, 7 in the age category 50-59 years, 19 in the age category 60-69 years, 24 in the age category 70-79 years and 29 in the age group over 80 years.
80 of the registered deaths are of some patients who presented comorbidities, 1 deceased patient did not register comorbidities.
44 deaths were reported prior to the reference interval, occurring in the counties of Arad, Bacău, Călărași, Ialomița and Bucharest, registered in October and November 2021. In the reference interval, 37 deaths were reported.
Out of a total of 81 patients who died, 74 were unvaccinated and 7 were vaccinated. The 7 vaccinated deceased patients ranged in age from 50 to 59 years and over 80 years. All vaccinated patients who died had comorbidities.
In the specialized health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 2,649. Of these, 453 are hospitalized at Intensive Care Units. Of the 453 patients admitted to the ICU, 43 had a certificate attesting to the vaccination.
Out of the total number of hospitalized patients, 50 are minors, 46 being hospitalized in wards and 4 in Intensive Care Units.
To date, 10,978,163 RT-PCR tests and 5,859,307 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide. In the last 24 hours, 11,249 RT-PCR tests were performed (5,023 based on case definition and medical protocol and 6,226 on request) and 28,745 rapid antigen tests.
In Romania, 8,913 people confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 2,975 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 108,171 people are in quarantine at home, and 31 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
In the last 24 hours, 896 calls were registered to the unique emergency number 112 and 625 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), open especially for informing citizens.
As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 on some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on December 22, 2,005 sanctions for minor offenses, amounting to 1,177,978 lei.
Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 2 criminal files were drawn up yesterday for the failure to fight diseases, a deed provided and punished by art. 352 Penal Code.
We remind the citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has operationalised, starting with 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of the sanitary protection norms can be notified.
The calls are taken over by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and until now, 200 Romanian citizens abroad, 40 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 60 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, 5 in Ireland, 2 in Switzerland, 2 in Austria, one in the USA, one in Brazil, one in the Republic of Congo, one in Greece, one in Iran, one in Poland, one in Bulgaria, one in Nigeria, one in Turkey and one in Croatia died.
Of the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus infection, 798 were declared cured: 677 in Germany, 90 in Greece, 18 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg, one in Tunisia and one in Argentine.
