The European Commission transferred to Romania the amount intended to cover some expenses generated by the crisis in Ukraine
Romania received on 11th and respectively on 12th of August the sum of 39.1 million euros in the MAI accounts opened for this purpose, representing emergency assistance, from the European Commission, intended to cover the budgetary effort of the EU Member States most affected by the refugee crisis in Ukraine.
After the verification and approval, by the European Commission, of the fulfillment of the indicators in the applications submitted for the allocation of these amounts, the MIA will transfer to the state budget the sum of 39.1 million euros, in order to cover some expenses already incurred by Romania, in the context of the crisis in Ukraine, released from the Reserve Fund.
We remind you that at the beginning of this month the financing contracts for the amount of 39.1 million euros were signed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, of which 12.1 million euros related to the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and 27 million euros related to the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy (IMFV).
The European Commission took into account the expenses incurred by public authorities for the reception of Ukrainian citizens under the conditions of the Decision on temporary protection of 4th of March 2022 and for activities related to the control and facilitation of border crossing at the relevant external borders of the EU.
In order to facilitate quick access to these funds and limit the bureaucracy, the European Commission chose a not linked to costs financing, all the more so since the actual costs might fluctuate significantly.
Along with Romania, they received external non-refundable funds in the context of the refugee crisis from Ukraine and Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
As a result of the sustained efforts of the Romanian authorities, on July 12th, 2022 the European Commission sent the information letter regarding the approval of the 2 applications requesting non-reimbursable external funds through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Instrument of Financial support for Border Management and Visa Policy (IMFV).
