Consolidation of Romanian-Hungarian cooperation in the field of Internal Affairs: the bilateral meeting of ministers Cătălin Predoiu and Sándor Pinter

Cătălin Predoiu, Minister of Internal Affairs:

After last week’s talks in Sofia with Bulgarian Minister Stoyanov and European Commissioner Johansson, today in Budapest I had a working meeting with Hungarian Minister Sándor Pinter.

Hungary will continue to support Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area with land borders in 2024.

We have a well-established diplomatic plan that we will follow until we reach our goal.

I also discussed with my Hungarian colleague measures to combat illegal migration, to strengthen border protection, to combat human trafficking and drug trafficking. To this end, we will supplement both border police and judicial officers who, in mixed teams with Hungarian colleagues, will multiply our efforts on the lines of work exposed above.

We also discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in the field of civil protection.

On all these lines, our cooperation is excellent and will continue in the same parameters.

I have decided with Minister Sándor Pinter to continue our meetings either in Bucharest or
