On August the 31st, 2023, a delegation from the Republic of Turkey led by Mr. Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu, Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Republic of Turkey, paid a visit to the MAI, by virtue of the excellent bilateral collaborative relations in the field of internal affairs.

The Turkish delegation, accompanied by H.E. Mr. Özgür Kıvanç Altan, the ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Bucharest, was received at the headquarters of the MAI by a delegation that included: Mr. General Police Quaestor Bogdan Despescu, Secretary of State, Head of the Department for Order and Public Safety, Mr. Dr. Raed Arafat, secretary of state, head of the Department for Emergency Situations and Police Quaestor Mihai-Cătălin Necula, secretary of state for international relations.

On the occasion of this visit, the interlocutors had the opportunity to carry out a consistent exchange of views about the current challenges in the field of internal affairs, including at the regional level, with an emphasis on the main topics of mutual interest such as emergency situations, border protection and combating illegal migration, cooperation in the fields of the Gendarmerie and the Police.

During the discussions, the two parties’ officials expressed their satisfaction with the developments registered in bilateral cooperation and the importance of strengthening coordination at all levels was highlighted in this regard. In this context, the invitation was sent, addressed by Mr. Cătălin Marian Predoiu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs, to Mr. Ali Yerlikaya to pay a visit to Romania. The Turkish counter side representative confirmed the interest in achieving good coordination at the strategic level in order to increase resilience, taking into account the regional security environment.

It was also reiterated the commitment of both sides to intensify efforts in order to prevent and combat cross-border crime and illegal migration, and to ensure increased security in the Black Sea region. Through their actions in these areas, RO and TR will coordinate activities in order to ensure the safety of all citizens, including at the EU level.

Regarding the field of emergency situations, the solid cooperation and mutual support was highlighted, the two countries gave each other help in times of crisis, and the determination to deepening and developing this issue.
