On 25.10.2023, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting of Mr. Cătălin Predoiu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs, took place with a Danish delegation, which included the Secretary of State for International Relations from the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, Mr. Henrik Ankerstjerne, Special Representative for Migration, Mr. Nicolaj A. Hejberg and His Excellency, Mr. Uffe Balslev, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark in Bucharest.

The main purpose of the bilateral consultations was about the issues related to the migration policies of both countries, as well as an exchange of point of views about the number of elements of common interest on the European agenda.

In the opening of the meeteing, the Romanian dignitary highlighted the interest that Romania gives to the field and the way in which Romania has constantly shown its solidarity towards states under migration pressure, responding positively to all requests for support from either the European Commission, either within bilaterally context. He also focused attention upon aspects related to Romania’s migration policy, with an emphasis on the interest in its external dimension and in strengthening cooperation with partners from EU third countries.

The Danish official representative also pointed out elements related to the migration and asylum policy he applies, emphasizing a series of ideas related to the effective management of migratory flows, which are constantly increasing at the external borders of the EU.

The Danish partners sent support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, expressing appreciation for the efforts made by our country in securing the external border of the EU.

The two sides authorities decided to continue the bilateral dialogue at this level and coordinate the positions expressed in the specific working patterns, both at the European and international level.
