The message of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America

On the occasion of the US Independence Day, July 4th, I send forward to the people and the American nation my most sincere wishes for peace, prosperity and progress.

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, a document ratified on July 4th, 1776, stated as a visionary issue that all men are created equal; they are endowed by the Creator with certain inalienable rights; among these rights are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, continuing to be a model and source of inspiration for all nations that share these values.

The National Day of the USA is also a good opportunity to evoke and reaffirm the in-depth Strategic Partnership between our countries, which guarantees collective security and mutual support in the event of any threat and which must be further developed, including in the economic and investment fields.

As Minister of Internal Affairs, I have developed and will continue to develop the cooperation between law enforcement institutions in our country and the American federal ones, with the aim of strengthening public safety, combating cross-border crime, human and drug trafficking in particular, protection and the recovery of victims of human and drug trafficking, the protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens.

I recall, in this context, the intensification of the MIA’s efforts to combat human trafficking in the last year, an aspect positively mentioned including in the annual report of the US State Department.

It is a sensitive area in which institutional efforts to combat human trafficking and improve the protection and assistance offered to victims will continue, in collaboration with national and international profile structures.

Equally relevant is the collaboration with the FBI in combating cross-border organized crime, drug and people-trafficking, as well as cybercrime. It is an institutional partnership that I care a lot about, including from the perspective of the excellent level of training of the specialists in the US institution, the quality of the education that they want transferred to the national institutions for training employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

I have already announced the intention of a partnership between the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy and the FBI Academy at Quantico, a project on which we were concretely and effectively working, a partnership whose materialization should not only be the exchange of experience, but, in the long term, transfer of expertise and know-how in the preparation of law enforcement forces, which will lead including to a change of mentality of those who are preparing to enter the MIA, simultaneously with the public perception of them.

Romania remains a friend and ally of the United States, with the hope and desire to continue and develop, in various fields, a successful partnership!

Happy birthday to the United States of America!
