The message of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Nicolae Bode, on the occasion of the General Inspectorate for Immigration Day

Today we celebrate 142 years of documentary attestation of the structure that deals with the regime of foreign citizens in Romania, an essential institution of our country, especially in the period we are going through.

The completely unjust aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, an independent and sovereign state, tested the reaction capacity of all structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The General Inspectorate for Immigration was no exception for it.

In the almost 12 months since the beginning of the conflict in the neighboring country, you have ensured that more than 120,000 people have residence permits and benefit from temporary protection in Romania.

You organized and mobilized in areas with a large influx of Ukrainian citizens and were present on duty in refugee camps where you provided the necessary aid.

A great power to adapt to the new operative context from a logistical and organizational point of view was needed, to improve the work tools, the IT systems of the IGI that would allow the retrieval of data and the requests of the beneficiaries of temporary protection.

All these achievements have added to the current activities where you have also seen significant increases in most lines of work.

At the same time, in the context of the Schengen accession efforts, you have reconfirmed the high level of training of the General Inspectorate for Immigration specialists regarding the application of procedures in the field of return, but also ensuring the appropriate level of conditions of public custody in specialized centers.

I urge you to continue cooperation with the other institutions of the MAI and with European structures in the management of the immigration phenomenon, in order to identify the best mechanisms to prevent and combat illegal migration.

Dear officers, non-commissioned officers, civil servants and contract staff from the General Inspectorate for Immigration,

I congratulate you on your responsibility and commitment for the professional way in which you respond to the current challenges.

Today, after 142 years of existence, you have demonstrated that you have adapted very well to the times we live in and serve your country with honor and integrity.

I wish you may stay as dedicated and improve yourself every day!

Happy Birthday, dear colleagues who serve Romania under the uniform of the General Inspectorate for Immigration!
